Machine
Picking
Picking separates the
fibers in preparation for the carding process. Picking will allow
some vegetable debris to drop from the fibers. However, picking
is not a substitute for clean fibers to start with. At this stage,
we also begin the blending process when blending colors or fiber
types.
Machine
Carding
Carding loosens and
aligns fibers using a number of carding drums to produce batts
or rovings. Rovings are available either loose or in center pull
bumps. You can choose either a small bump (approximately 8 oz.)
or a large bump (approximately 1 lb.)
Packaging
- Bumps contain a
paper core which when pulled, begins the roving. The bumps are
placed in plastic bags.
- Loose roving is
placed in plastic bags.
- Batts are rolled
in tissue paper and placed in plastic bags.
