We want you to feel confident in entrusting your fleece to us. So we have listed below the detailed steps in which we process your fleece.

When Your Fleece Arrives

When your fleece arrives, it is weighed, evaluated for processing suitability, bagged, and labeled. Our labeling process allows us to guarantee that you will get your own fiber returned to you.

Fleece with extreme contamination or signs of bug infestation will not be accepted for processing. We will send it back at the owner's expense.

Additional charges will be assessed for fleeces that are not skirted or have excessive grease.

Our minimum charge is $10.00.

All pricing refers to the weight of your fleece prior to any processing services.

Washing

Clean and grease-free fleece is essential to processing. The cleaner the fleece the higher the quality of the finished product and less wear and tear on our equipment.

You can wash your fleece, thereby reducing your processing fees or we will be happy to wash it for you.

We us biodegradable, non-allergenic detergent and extremely hot water.

If you intend to wash your fleece, please be advised that we reserve the right to re-wash your fleece or return it to you if necessary. If you intend to wash your fleece, please refer to the "Washing Instructions".

Drying

Once washed, your fleece is placed on drying racks in a heated room to dry.

Machine Picking

Picking separates the fibers in preparation for the carding process. Picking will allow some vegetable debris to drop from the fibers. However, picking is not a substitute for clean fibers to start with. At this stage, we also begin the blending process when blending colors or fiber types.

Machine Carding

Carding loosens and aligns fibers using a number of carding drums to produce batts or rovings. Rovings are available either loose or in center pull bumps. You can choose either a small bump (approximately 8 oz.) or a large bump (approximately 1 lb.)

Packaging

  • Bumps contain a paper core which when pulled, begins the roving. The bumps are placed in plastic bags.
  • Loose roving is placed in plastic bags.
  • Batts are rolled in tissue paper and placed in plastic bags.
