In order to adequately
clean fleece, you will need very hot water and detergent.
Do not allow the fiber
to agitate or it will felt.
You can either use
a washing machine, bathtub or other large tub like container.
Fill your washing machine
or tub with the hottest water available (approximately 140°).
You might need to add boiling water to increase the temperature.
Add 4 to 5 times the amount of liquid detergent you would normally
use for a regular load of laundry. Just about any liquid detergent
that does not contain bleach or conditioners is suitable. When
washing fleece, we recommend placing small amounts of fiber in
mesh lingerie bags. This makes submerging and retrieving the fiber
very simple. As an added note, if you are using a washing machine,
this also reduces the amount of lint your machine must deal with.
Now you are ready to
submerge the fiber in the wash water. If you are using a washing
machine, be sure to turn your machine off. Gently place the fiber
in the wash water and push the bags under the water using a wood
dowel.
Allow the fiber to
soak for 45 minutes.
If you are using a
washing machine, turn your machine to the last spin cycle and
spin the wash water out. Once complete; remove the fiber from
the washer. If you are using a tub, gently lift the fiber out
of the wash water and drain it thoroughly.
Refill your washer
or tub with hot water, and gently submerge the fiber. Let it soak
for 15 to 30 minutes.
Spin or drain the rinse
water.
We recommend two rinses.
Extremely fine or greasy fiber may require repeating this entire
process again.
After washing, spread
the fiber on sweater dryers or window screens to air dry.
